I think most of us would agree, that if you have a 4wd you’re probably going to upgrade your rig at some stage; whether it’s that lift kit you’ve been eyeing, or the something as simple as a UHF radio… it’s just a part of owning a 4x4.
As a 4wd enthusiast, I’m constantly tinkering and upgrading my 4x4 to be ready for weekends away camping, and enjoying the countryside. My latest project is 3 years underway and still not finished… I mean, are we ever really finished a project?
It all started just after covid, I hopped on marketplace and found a cheap 2004 Gu Patrol Ute, and bought it site unseen. Not exactly my best decision but I don’t regret it.
It came from Dubbo and was in a lot worse shape than I expected. Fast forward six months and I’ve got a Ute spread all over the shed floor… I’d stripped it down to replace the chassis as it had snapped and been welded a few times.
I spent the next few weeks sanding and painting the new chassis, as well as bracing it from front to back with the PSR bracing kits, tray mounts and HD arms ect.
I then stripped the cab ready for paint, and got a mate to respray the cab. By this stage there isn’t a single bush, bolt or parts that hasn’t been replaced, upgraded or repaired. The old Ute has had a new lease on life and is looking better than ever! 
After 1 1/2 years, I finally got it on the road and could enjoy it at last! My first car and I couldn’t be happier! Then six months later it blew a heater hose and the old TD42 cooked itself! It was a bad day to say the least… but I didn’t give up on the old girl!
it’s been almost a year since then, and she still ain’t going… but I’ve got some big plans!
Here’s a hint…
That’s right, the old Gu is going to get a twin turbo M57. As well as full air suspension and a complete interior upgrade! I will be using Fusion Fab Industries’ engine conversion parts (coming soon to Revolve4x4) It’s going to be mental!
